“I’d definitely love to be a part of it,” Jesse Metcalfe said of a potential sequel during a panel with former costars Sophia Bush and Arielle Kebbel
More John Tucker Must Die could be coming our way soon!
Jesse Metcalfe, Sophia Bush and Arielle Kebbel reunited for a panel at Epic Cons Chicago on Sunday, almost 18 years after the release of their classic teen comedy, where they said a sequel to the film has been written.
“I’ve heard rumors of this script â there’s a script,” said Metcalfe, 45. “Apparently it’s amazing.”
And while he hasn’t seen the screenplay himself, “I’d definitely love to be a part of it,” the actor said, adding that he “can’t wait to read it.”
John Tucker Must Die follows Metcalfe’s titular womanizer as he dates three girls at the same time: Heather (Ashanti), Beth (Bush, 41) and Carrie (Kebbel, 39). As revenge for him breaking up with all of them, the girls enlist fellow student Kate (Brittany Snow) to help bring him down.
After revealing that the script, which she is involved in, “does involve all of the OG cast,” Kebbel told the crowd that Metcalfe’s character “may or may not get a chance to change” his ways, “which would be very exciting.”
“Do I get a chance to wear a thong again?” Metcalfe joked, to which Kebbel responded, “We wanted to talk to you about that.”
“We were thinking you’d actually, like, make your own brand, endorse it. It’d be a whole thing,” she quipped.
“I’m here for it. I can’t wait to unleash this dad bod on the big screen,” Metcalfe added.
John Tucker Must Die was Metcalfe’s first-ever film appearance, and he told PEOPLE last year that it’s still the role he gets recognized for more often.
He also said he’d be open to a sequel if it should ever come to fruition, for fans to see what John is up to almost two decades later.
“Sure. Why not? I don’t know if I see that happening, but I’m down,” said the On a Wing and a Prayer actor, going on to share what his idea for a reboot to the comedy might be.
“I always thought a good way to do a John Tucker Must Die revival would be that the entire cast is younger. And then I play the John Tucker character’s uncle, who grew up to kind of be a loser,” Metcalfe said. “It could be funny.”
We have a brand new layout thanks to the amazing Claudia. When I got my hands on this shoot, I couldn’t help but fall in with it and knew that this had to be the next photos we use for the layout.

The official description of the series states that it will follow âthe personal and professional lives of the heavy-water lifeguards who patrol and protect the North Shore of Oâahuâthe most famous and dangerous stretch of coastline in the world. Each episode will feature these dedicated, heroic, and adrenaline-seeking first-responders saving lives in the difficult and often life-threatening conditions of Hawaiiâs Seven Mile Miracle.â
Matt Kester wrote the pilot and serves as executive producer and showrunner. John Wells executive produces via John Wells Productions and will direct the first two episodes. Erin Jontow of John Wells Productions and Daniele Nathanson also executive produce. The series is co-produced by Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment. Wells is currently under an overall deal at WBTV.
Magasiva is repped by Impression Entertainment and Sue Barnett & Associates. Kebbel is repped by Independent Artist Group, Untitled Entertainment, Vision PR, and Hanson Jacobson. Fox ordered âRescue: Hi Surfâ not long before it was announced that its hit drama series â9-1-1â would be moving to ABC for its seventh season, while the sister series â9-1-1: Lone Starâ was renewed for a fifth season that will debut on Fox in fall 2024.
Character Descriptions:
Robbie Magasiva as HARLAN âSONNYâ JENNINGS â SONNY JENNINGS is a surfer, waterman, and North Shore lifeguard captain with deep ties to his community and an iron clad commitment to his team of heavy water first responders. A charismatic leader who inspires courage and loyalty, SONNYâS grief over his nephewâs death threatens to cost him the job and team he loves.
Arielle Kebbel as Emily âEMâ WRIGHT â In a lifeguard force that is 90% male, EM WRIGHT is still the best. A true maverick, EM is the first female lieutenant in Ocean Safety history, an accomplished surfer and record setting paddler who has her sights set on the captainâs job, a position currently held by Sonny, her struggling mentor and friend.
Adam Demos as WILL READY â An Aussie surfer and certified lifesaver since his nipper days at the local board riders club, WILL came to the North Shore to challenge himself and stayed. Good-natured and loyal, WILLâs blue-collar work ethic and incomparable fitness means heâs game to tackle any situation the ocean throws at him.
Kekoa Kekumano as LAKA HANOHANOâConfident, competent, and hilarious, LAKA is an uber-fit Native Hawaiian lifeguard from Honolulu who patrols the busy North Shore beaches with a style all his own. Fearless in the ocean and never afraid of a good time, Laka loves his job and the lifestyle that comes with it.
Alex Aiono as KAINALU â Cocky and competitive, sweet but stubborn, KAINALU was born into privilege in an upscale neighborhood just outside Honolulu. With a politician father whoâs on the rise, Kainalu is defying lots of expectations (like finishing college) to be a rookie North Shore lifeguard.
Zoe Cipres as HINA â Rookie North Shore lifeguard from a large, working-class Hawaiian family. Smart, sassy, fiercely competitive. Top of her training class, concerned with how to balance her professional duties (and the fishbowl of being one of only a dozen women on the job) with her deep love for her family and community.
Sea Shimooka as JENN (RECURRING) â A big wave surfer and working EMT born and raised on Kauai, JENN came to Oahu for med school â but the proximity to big surf was also a key motivator. JENN is serious about her job, serious about big waves, and has a sense of commitment that drives her to take everything to the next level.
I’ve been sitting on these caps since 2022 and haven’t sat down to sort them and finally did. I’ve add over 1,000 HD screencaptures of Arielle from her ION movie back in 2021. Sadly, the only version that I could find was from ION itself so it does have logos on the bottom.
